Saturday & Sunday, 10AM-4PM The United Arts Club Dublin 3 Fitzwilliam St D02 RR50 An intensive portrait painting course designed to teach students the techniques of classical portraiture. This course focuses on replicating the methods of renowned portrait artists from the past. The course begins with a technical demonstration covering color mixing, imprimatura preparation, palette organization, and medium preparation. These fundamentals set the stage for lectures and workshops covering topics like master drawing techniques, tracing and copying, and the study of lighting in portraiture. Students will also learn about brushwork, blending, media use, palette setup, and proper painting posture, as well as understanding value scales. The course will be taught by artist Michael J. Doherty, whos works are directly inspired by that of the old masters. Students will replicate his works and that of the masters and learn the process of creating classically - inspired works in oil. Students can look forward to detailed lectures illustrating how to create their own works based on the time-honoured techniques of the great masters of Europe, followed by hands-on tuition in painting Throughout the course, students will spend a significant amount of time working on their own portrait projects, applying the techniques learned in class. This hands-on approach helps students grasp classical painting principles. There will also be opportunities for students to discuss and critique each other's work, providing valuable feedback and enhancing their understanding of the techniques being taught. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in portrait painting, and create a realistic portrait using traditional methods.
