Consisting of a series of carefully designed studies, the program at SSCA is unique in it’s structure, it differs for every student. The key for us is to foster passion, support creativity in your artwork, and inform it with a high standard of skill development. Because of this, we encourage the student to choose their own academic projects within the parameters of the program.
Personally, we believe that the primary vocation of our instructors is to teach the means of creating artwork, not to direct your creative outcomes. Through the program we hope to give every student the bedrock of skills required to express themselves creatively. We want to equip our students to become practicing artists, aiming to impart a fluency in technical ability, and a functioning knowledge of what it takes to be creative professionally. A model student for SSCA is one that combines their academic study with their own creative projects. Just as with any form of personal development, the results you attain will be a reflection on the effort you dedicate.
Over three years of studying, through our program, students learn the fundamental concepts and practices of realistic painting and drawing. Students immediately work from life and progress through studies which become steadily more complicated. With every progression students are taught the function and benefit of solving their particular problems within their exercises. Students, eventually, in manageable stages become expert problem solvers and gain technical mastery.
